In a classic Wimbledon semifinal match that left both players exhausted and the spectators exhilarated, Serena Williams beat Elena Dementieva 6-7, 7-5, 8-6 to advance to the Wimbledon final."It was really, really tough," Williams said afterward. "Elena played so well and we gave the crowd a wonderful match."
Dementieva played very well in the early going, and it looked like it was going to be her day. She broke Williams' serve in the first game, and although Williams returned the favor in the second game, Dementieva was strong throughout, winning the first set 7-6.

But Williams drew on her superior conditioning as the match wore on. Williams' strength and power appeared to be affecting Dementieva, and Williams won the second set with an ace.
The third set was one that will be remembered forever. Williams saved match point with a brilliant backhand volley while down 5-4, and she went on to win 8-6, concluding the longest match of her career by drilling a backhand that bounced off the net and that Dementieva returned wide. Williams is now in her fifth Wimbledon final, where she'll try to win her 11th career Grand Slam. She'll face either her big sister Venus Williams or Dinara Safina, who play in Thursday's second semifinal match. Venus and Safina have a tough act to follow.

Serena saying something nice about her opponent?? She said that Elena "played well". I guess when she wins it's okay to compliment her opponent, but if she loses, well then it's never because of her opponent playing well. It's always because Serena didn't play well. Classless.

Yeah, I thought so too. It was one of the hardest-fought tennis matches of the year, according to most of the commentators.
I missed Venus vs. Safina. Hopefully it will be shown on NBC tonight?
PS Hope you cover the upcoming World Track & Field Championships in Berlin at the beginning of August. You know, those men and women running around half-naked. LOL It was actually more shocking to see Terrence Trammell run the 110 meter hurdles in traditional running shorts. When was the last time anyone's seen that?

Don't hate me but part of the problem is with the Russians. They get into the top ten because they are hungry. But once they make more money in one match than 1000 people make in a year, they lose their drive, get fat or hurt and start losing. Safina is clearly out of shape to win a major. The William Sisters are clearly the best siblings of all times in any sport. They stay mentally tough. I love all players but get real.

Please just be honest that they are really classic in and out of the court.Let be honest if its were you in the tennis Semi-finals would you give a chance to your opponent to take you out of the tournment just because you have won a lot of champions titles? Well as you said in one of your comments that let Serina give credit were its due. Of course it was a great match between 2 very great players and i guess who ever watched the match will give both players credits due to the hard works they have done through that stage of the game. If you were Serina or Venus all you can say about opponents is that they did well against you and every one wont expect you to say that your opponents did not do well. So every time you try to give a comment, please give it to the right place were its due. SERINA&VENUS WILLIAMS ARE TAOTALLY ONE OF THE BESTS IN THE GAME RIGHT SO WHY NOT GIVE THEM THE CREDITS THEY DESERVES......
